5 Easy Ways to Save On Your Network Maintenance

After working in the Independent Reseller world for over a decade, there are some definite ways to save on your maintenance costs.

Here they are in somewhat of an order of priority

1. Firstly distinguish between what requires software support?

2. Layer 2 devices do not need to have OEM support, most give this away for free.

3. Look at devices that are aging that have been stable in the network for a while, they will be the more expensive ones

4. Look to see where you might have density in one area, these might be an opportunity for self sparing.

5. Look at where you might have 4 hour support, their might be an opportunity to keep a spare and reduce the SLA down to NBD

6. Ask a Third Party Maintenance provider to quote you and don't just look at the OEM Have I missed any? What ways have you managed to save on your maintenance costs before?

More often than not businesses just adopt what the OEM's are prescribing. We also see the emergence of security insisting that devices are supported as CEO's become concerned about potential holes in the network. 

However its important to consider the motivations of the OEM's are ensure that the interests of your business and money is being placed first.
